Japonica Seed Oil

The treasured beauty secret from Japan

Have you ever heard of the Japanese beauty secret Camellia japonica seed oil? Don’t be ashamed when it’s new to you, because this oil is still very unknown in Europe. And that is a pity because, in Japan, women are using this ingredient for decades to nourish the skin. When you read the packaging of make-up products, you’ll come across the most complicated names you may have never heard of before. At RoseKin Cosmetics, we think it’s important to educate you about the ingredients in our products. We all want to look flawless, but it’s good to understand what we apply on our skin on a daily base. Did you know that Camellia japonica seed oil not only protects your skin from pollution but also has a nurturing effect?

‘Rose of winter’

Image of the Japonica flower from Japan

Camellia japonica, known as ‘Tsubaki’ originates from Japan and can also be found in Korea and China. During winter, the Camellia tree raises beautiful flowers in the colors white, pink, and red and is therefore also called ‘Rose of winter’. From the seeds of the plant, oil is extracted with a light nutty scent. The oil has the remarkable ability to retain moisture and enter the deepest layers of the skin. Perhaps unknown here in Europe, but in Japan, this nourishing oil has been a treasured beauty secret among Japanese women and Geishas for centuries.

Fun fact; the leaves of the Camellia flower are used for the manufacture of tea. White, green and black tea are just some of the types of tea made of this plant.

The use of the japonica seed oil has many positive effects on the skin:

* Provides moisturized skin
* Protects skin from external pollution
* Conditioned oil and firms the skin
* Suitable for all skin types and especially for extra sensitive skin

The new Daily Protection Mineral Loose Powder SPF 50+ contains 2% camellia japonica. Not only does this new product contain natural ingredients it also protects you from your daily dose of UV rays.

Cold-pressed oil

Let’s dive a bit deeper in how the oil is extracted from the seeds of the japonica plant. First of all, the seeds must be washed thoroughly, before they get cold-milled or pressed. Cold-pressed means that the temperature does not exceed 35 degrees Celsius. If it does, biologically active substances are lost and are no longer effective. Therefore, the seeds need to be cold-milled to obtain a positive effect on your skin.

Fun fact; the Camellia flower was Coco Chanel’s favorite flower. The motif appears on packaging, bags, clothing, jewelry, and shoes.

Protects against pollution

Every day we are exposed to pollution that negatively affects not only the health but also the appearance of the skin. Cigarette smoke, fine dust, and smog are just a few examples that we are facing every day. So you can imagine that our skin has a lot to endure, and no matter what you do, it is impossible to prevent the visible effects of pollution on the skin. Luckily there are some things we can do. It is incredibly important to clean your face thoroughly every evening before going to bed. Besides, you can best protect your skin from these harmful effects by using care products that are rich in antioxidants. Camellia japonica is one of these products that protect against oxidative damage caused by heavy metals in the air.

When we don’t take good care of our skin, it gets
out of balance, and that is something we do not want!
An out of balanced skin can lead to various problems,
such as:

* Pigment spots
* Wrinkles
* Enlarged pores
* Red, sensitive skin
* Dry skin that feels itchy and tight

UVB damage

Finally, Camellia japonica is a rich source of the oil-soluble antioxidant gallic acid. The oil protects the skin against UVB damage. UVB rays are extremely powerful, and they play a major role as causers of skin cancer.

Not only environmental pollution causes these skin problems, but it occurs in age as well. Camellia japonica helps to protect the skin against these visible signs of aging, such as dark spots and wrinkles. Also, the loss of collagen, which affects the pore size, is directly addressed.

So it is therefore important, to use products that contain the camellia oil. Our new product, Daily Protection Mineral Loose Powder SPF 50+, contains 2% of oil extracted from the Camellia flower!

‘Just makeup is not enough’

In summary, Camellia Japonica seed oil offers many positive effects on the skin. Although it has been around for years in Asia, it is still relatively unknown in Europe. Camellia is suitable for all skin types, 100% natural, contains no parabens, no perfume, and has not been tested on animals. Besides providing a moisturized skin, the oil also protects against harmful substances from outside. And that is exactly what we want to achieve with RoseKin. We believe just makeup is not enough, and therefore we find it important, to combine the best makeup with skincare benefits just for you.

You only have 1 version of your skin – don’t forget to protect it as much as possible.
